Doug Gilmour is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A centre, he played for the St. Louis Blues, the Calgary Flames, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New Jersey Devils, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Buffalo Sabres, and the Montreal Canadiens, for a total of twenty seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL); and for the Canada national team. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player in 2011.
Doug is the son of Dolly and Don Gilmour, a correctional officer, who worked at the Kingston Penitentiary; and coached youth baseball and hockey. His brother is professional ice hockey player Dave Gilmour. He is married to Sonya. He has a daughter, Maddison, with his former wife Robyne; two children with his former wife Amy; and a daughter with Sonya. His daughter Maddison is married to Canadian-Polish professional ice hockey player Evan McGrath.
Doug’s paternal grandfather was Russel Victor Gilmour (the son of William George Gilmour and Margaret May Randall). William was born in Ontario, the son of Robert George Gilmour and Catherine Jane Harmer. Margaret was born in Ontario, the daughter of George Randall and Elizabeth J. Cairns.
Doug’s paternal grandmother was Daisy Dorothy Ashby (the daughter of Harry Adam Ashby and Alice Mabel Bush). Harry was born in Kent, England, the son of Thomas Ashby and Harriet Elizabeth Baker.
Doug’s maternal grandfather was John Leete Anson (the son of Fredrick George Anson and Anne Jane Casey). Fredrick was born in England, the son of Con A. Anson and Ellen Kelly. Anne was born in England, the daughter of John Casey and Ellen Guy.
Doug’s maternal grandmother was Caroline Marion Bird (the daughter of William Bird and Cora Ethel Hayes). William was born in Ontario, the son of Langley Bird and Caroline Trentham. Cora was born in Ontario, the daughter of William Edgar Hayes and Minerva Ellen Loyst.
