Doug Jones is an American actor, contortionist, and mime artist. Often portraying non-humans under heavy make-up and special effects work, his roles include the films Hocus Pocus , and its sequel; Tank Girl , Mimic , Hellboy (2004), and its sequel; The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (2005), Pan’s Labyrinth , Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , Absentia (2011), Crimson Peak , Ouija: Origin of Evil , The Bye Bye Man , and The Shape of Water , and the shows Falling Skies , The Strain , Star Trek: Discovery , and What We Do in the Shadows . He often works with director and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro . He is 6′4″.
His father was an Indiana State Legislator. He is married to Laurie Pontoni. Doug is a practising Christian.
Doug’s paternal grandfather was Robert Lambert Jones (the son of Robert Philip Jones and Bertha Angela/Angelena Tiepke). Doug’s grandfather Robert was born in Easton, Massachusetts. Doug’s great-grandfather Robert was an English emigrant, from Surrey, the son of Thomas Jones and Elizabeth. Bertha was the daughter of Corp. Henry Gustave Tiepke, who was a German emigrant, from Prussia; and of Sarah Tabitha Leach, whose parents were English, and who had roots in Hythe, Kent.
Doug’s paternal grandmother was Ada Louise Devoe (the daughter of Louis Elmer Devoe and Ada Powers Bateson). Doug’s grandmother Ada was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Louis was born in Foxborough, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Louis’s father, Joseph Francis Devoe, was the son of a French father and of a Danish mother. Louis’s mother, Louise E. Edwards, was the daughter of a man born on the Azores, Portugal, and of an Irish mother. It is not clear if Louise’s father, Antoine Edwards/Peterson, was of Portuguese descent. Doug’s great-grandmother Catherine was born in Glensboro, the daughter of William Briant Petty and Jerusha Hawkins.
Doug’s maternal grandmother was Olive Grace Ralston (the daughter of William Charlton Ralston and Mary Elizabeth Kinzer). Olive was born in Adams, Ohio, and had deep lines in the U.S. William was born in Scott Township, Adams, the son of Thomas Ralston and Rebecca Jane Glasgow, whose paternal grandparents were from Londonderry, Ireland. Doug’s great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth was born in Ohio, the daughter of Adam Kinzer and Susannah Parker.
