Dree Hemingway is an American fashion model and actress. Her roles include the films Starlet (2012), Listen Up Philip , While We’re Young , It Happened in L.A. , and Love After Love (2017).
Dree is the daughter of actress Mariel Hemingway and writer, director and producer Stephen Crisman. Her sister is artist, actress, and model Langley Fox. Her aunt was model and actress Margaux Hemingway. She is a maternal granddaughter of Canadian-American fly fisherman, conservationist, and writer Jack Hemingway, and a great-granddaughter of author Ernest Hemingway . She is the half-great-niece of wildlife manager and writer Patrick Hemingway and physician and writer Gloria Hemingway, and a half-first cousin, once removed, of author and freelance journalist Lorian Hemingway and Canadian-American author John Hemingway.
Dree was partly raised in Ketchum, Idaho, one of Ernest Hemingway’s famous residences; and Westlake Village, California.
Dree’s paternal grandfather was Lee Rudolph Crisman (the son of Jacob Lee Crisman and Ruth Elinor Rudolph). Dree’s grandfather Lee was born in Winchester, Virginia, and had mostly deep American roots. Jacob was the son of Jacob Crisman, who was a German emigrant, from Hesse; and of Nancy Catherine Larrick, whose own great-grandmother, Elizabeth “Betsy” Sundown, is said to have been a Native American, from the Shawnee tribe. Dree’s great-grandmother Ruth was the daughter of Angelo Grandstaff Rudolph and Anna Jackson Jones.
Dree’s paternal grandmother was Dorothy Ann Fox (the daughter of Charles P. Fox and Cecelia/Cecilia Rebecka Nelson). Dorothy was born in New York. Charles was born in Stamford, Connecticut, the son of German Jewish immigrants, Peter Fox and Hedwig Hirsch/Hirshshon/Herschson. Dree’s great-grandmother Cecelia was born in New York City, New York, the daughter of Swedish emigrants, Leonard Nilsson and Emma Rebecca Lundgren, who was from Höja, Södra Åsbo, Kristianstad.
Dree’s maternal grandfather was John Hadley Nicanor Hemingway (the son of Ernest Miller Hemingway and Elizabeth Hadley Richardson). John was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Ernest was born in Oak Park, Cook, Illinois, and was of almost entirely English, and a small amount of German, ancestry. He was the son of Clarence Edmonds Hemingway, whose maternal grandmother was born in London, Ontario, Canada; and of Grace H. Hall, whose own parents were English, her father from Burslem, Staffordshire, and her mother from Bristol. Dree’s great-great-grandmother Grace Hall Hemingway was an opera singer, music teacher, and painter. Dree’s great-grandmother Hadley was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of James J. Richardson and Florence W. Wyman.
Dree’s maternal grandmother was Byra Louise Whittlesey (the daughter of Horace Belden Whittlesey and Byra Wilhelmina Brooks). Dree’s grandmother Byra was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and had deep roots in the U.S. Horace was born in Nebraska, the son of Henry Hooker Whittlesey and Emma L. Case. Dree’s great-grandmother Byra was born in Nebraska, the daughter of Byron Powhaton Brooks and Louise/Louisa Anna Friederika Deppe/Dippe, whose parents were German.
