He is the son of Beulah (Neal) and Lewis E. Carey. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Drew’s paternal grandparents were Elmer Ellsworth Carey (the son of George T. F. Carey and Mary Jane Williams). Elmer was born in Pennsylvania. George was the son of Hamilton Carey, who may have been English, and of Elizabeth Flouting, who was German, from Saxony. Mary Jane was born in Pennsylvania, to Welsh parents, Archer Williams and Sarah Ann Norrish.
