Edward Berger is a German-Swiss-Austrian director and screenwriter. He has directed the films Jack (2014), All My Loving , All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film; Conclave (2024), and Ballad of a Small Player . He wrote the second film, and co-wrote the first and third. He also directed the mini-series Patrick Melrose , and episodes of the series KDD – Kriminaldauerdienst , which he also wrote for; Deutschland 83 , The Terror , and Your Honor .
His father was Austrian, and worked as a logistics manager at Volkswagen. His mother was from Switzerland. He has lived in Wolfsburg, and Berlin, is a citizen of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Edward is married to German actress and screenwriter Nele Mueller-Stöfen.
