Em Beihold is an American singer and songwriter. She is known for her song “Numb Little Bug.”
Her mother is filmmaker, film producer, and animation producer Zahra Dowlatabadi. She was born in Tehran, and moved to the U.S. after the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
Em’s paternal grandfather was Thomas Edison Beihold (the son of William Frederick Beihold and Emily Rebecca Henline). Thomas was born in Decatur, Indiana. William was born in Bielefeld, Germany, the son of Gottlieb Fred Berhold and Minnie Copp. Emily was born in Wells, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas Wilson Henline and Lucy Harriet Wolf. She was of mostly German descent.
Em’s paternal grandmother was Marjorie E. Johnson (the daughter of Albert Gustave Johnson and Hilda May Ings). Marjorie was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Albert was born in Caribou, Aroostook, Maine, to Swedish parents, Carl Augustus Johnson, who was from Göteborg; and Anna Mary Anderson. Em’s great-grandmother Hilda was born in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, to Canadian parents, from Queens, Prince Edward Island, Hope Sydney Ings, whose father was from Portsea, Hampshire, England; and Gertrude Susannah Ross, whose paternal grandmother was Scottish.
Em’s maternal grandfather was Hushang Dawlatabadi (the son of Hisam/Hessameddin al-Din Dawlatabadi and Fakhri Giti Dawlatabadi). Hushang was born in Isfahan, Iran.
Em’s maternal grandmother was Mahdukht/Mahin San’ati (the daughter of ‘Abd al-Husayn San’atizadah and Qamar Taj Dawlatabadi). Mahdukht was born in Tehran, Iran. Qamar was the sister of Iranian activist Sediqeh Dowlatabadi.
