Aynsley was the son of Sir Walpole Lloyd Greenwell, 1st Bt. and Kathleen Eugenie Tizard. Beatrice was the daughter of The Rev. Edward Sanderson, who was Rector at Uckfield, Sussex, England.
Emma’s paternal grandmother was Sarah Carson (the daughter of Commander Hon. Walter Seymour Carson and Violet Taswell Richardson). Sarah was born in Gosport, Hampshire, England. Walter was born in Dublin, Ireland, the son of Edward Henry Carson, Baron Carson, whose father was architect Edward Henry Carson; and of Sarah Annette Forster Kirwan. Violet was the daughter of Mabel Rose Male.
