Emmerson Mnangagwa is a Zimbabwean politician. He has been President of Zimbabwe, since 24 November, 2017, and First Secretary of ZANU-PF, from 19 November, 2017. He was previously Minister of State for National Security, from 1980 to 1988, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, from 31 December, 1989 to 1 July 2000, and again, from 11 September, 2013 to 9 October, 2017; Speaker of Parliament, from 18 July, 2000 to 9 April, 2005; Minister of Rural Housing and Social Amenities, from 9 April, 2005 to 13 February, 2009; Minister of Defence, from 13 February, 2009 to 11 September, 2013; First Vice-President of Zimbabwe, from 12 December, 2014 to 6 November, 2017; and Chairman of Southern African Development Community, from 17 August, 2024 to 17 August, 2025; as well as, a Member of Parliament, from 13 May 1980 to 2014.
He is the son of farmers Mhurai and Mafidhi Mnangagwa. He is married to Auxilia, with whom he has two children.
