Ennio Morricone was an Italian composer, orchestrator, conductor, trumpet player, and pianist. He wrote music for more than 500 motion pictures and television series. He won the Academy Honorary Award in 2007, and then the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Hateful Eight (2015). He was also known as Maestro, Dan Savio, and Leo Nichols.
Ennio was the son of Libera (Ridolfi) and Mario Morricone, a musician. His family came from Arpino, province of Frosinone, Italy.
Ennio was married to lyricist Maria Travia, until his death, with whom he had four children, including composer and conductor Andrea Morricone and filmmaker Giovanni Morricone.
Ennio’s paternal grandfather was named Luigi Morricone.
