Eric McCormack is a Canadian/American actor, musician, and writer. He is known for starring on the series Will & Grace , Perception , Slasher: Ripper , and Hell Motel .
Eric was born and raised in Canada, the son of Doris and Keith McCormack. He acquired U.S. citizenship in 1999, and is a dual citizen. Eric is married to Janet Holden, with whom he has a son. Eric is sometimes described as having Cherokee Native American ancestry, but on his Twitter account, when asked “Is it true that ur ancestry is Cherokee and Scottish?,” he replied , “No, the Cherokee stuff is made-up internet crap.”
Eric’s paternal grandfather was Oliver Alexander Latham McCormack (the son of Nathaniel Latham McCormack and Margaret Ann Bingham). Oliver was a prominent doctor, who was born in Vivian, Ontario. Nathaniel was the son of Robert McCormick, who was born in Niagara, New York, to parents from what is now Northern Ireland; and of Elizabeth/Eliza Latham, who was born in Castleblayner, County Monaghan, Ireland. Eric’s great-grandmother Margaret was the daughter of John George Bingham and Jane Eliza Potter, who were from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
Eric’s paternal grandmother was Grace Anna Middleton (the daughter of James Planderleigh/Plenderleith Middleton and Annie Maria Evans). Grace was born in Toronto, Ontario. James was born in Ontario, to Scottish parents, George Middleton and Janet/Jeannette Plenderleigh. Annie was the daughter of Thomas Mitchell Evans and Matilda Ross, and was of Scottish descent.
Eric’s maternal grandfather was Edwin Arthur Luttrell (the son of Arthur Luttrell and Ella Pethick). Edwin was born in Toronto, Ontario. Eric’s great-grandfather Arthur was the son of Alexander Luttrell, an emigrant from County Kildare, Ireland; and of Sarah Ellen Barnes, whose parents were from Dorset, England. Eric’s great-grandmother Ella was the daughter of William Edward Pethick, whose parents were Cornish, from Stratton; and of Mary Nichol Sylvester, whose paternal grandparents were emigrants from Ireland, and whose maternal grandfather was Scottish.
Eric’s maternal grandmother was Frances Elsie Haynes (the daughter of John Haynes and Alice Maud Mottram). Frances was born in Toronto, Ontario, to English parents. John was born in Garway, Herefordshire, the son of Thomas William Haynes and Sarah Ann Kirkpatrick. Alice was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, the daughter of Walter Mottram and Emelia Harriet Cantrell.
