Ethan Hawke is an American actor, writer, director, and author. Ethan is the son of Leslie Carole (Green), a charity worker and teacher, and James Steven Hawke, an insurance actuary. He moved several times with his mother as a child, eventually settling in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, and then West Windsor Township, New Jersey. Ethan is married to Ryan Shawhughes. He has two children, models and actors Maya Hawke and Levon Hawke , with his former wife, actress and model Uma Thurman ; and two children with Ryan.
Ethan’s paternal grandfather was Frank Taylor Hawke (the son of Ronald M. Hawke and Edith S. Mosher). Frank was born in Warren County, Ohio. Ronald was born in Kansas, the son of George Washington Hawke, whose parents were from England, with his father having been born in Truro, Cornwall; and of Ida Jane Dakin. Ethan’s great-grandmother Edith was born in Warren County, the daughter of John Jacob Mosher and Laura Henrietta Harris.
Ethan’s paternal grandmother was Betty Virginia Hartsock (the daughter of Herbert Clark “Bert” Hartsock and Winifred/Winifrede E. Macy). Betty was born in Warren County, Ohio. Herbert was born in Waynesville, Warren, the son of Jesse L. Hartsock and Addah/Adele/Addie M. Alexander. Ethan’s great-grandmother Winifred was born in Warren County, the daughter of Edmund/Edmond Antram “Ed” Macy and Cora Anna Wise. Through his Macy line, Ethan is a distant cousin of Rowland Hussey Macy, who founded R. H. Macy & Co. (now Macy’s), and of actor William H. Macy .
Ethan’s maternal grandfather was Howard Lemuel Green (the son of Thomas Lemuel Green and Della Hall). Howard was born in Swenson, Stonewall, Texas.
