Fabrizio Moretti is a Brazilian-Italian musician and visual artist. He is the drummer of rock band The Strokes. The other members of the band are Julian Casablancas , Nikolai Fraiture , Albert Hammond, Jr. , and Nick Valensi .
Fabrizio’s father is Italian, from Castellazzo Bormida, Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, Italy. His mother is Brazilian. Fabrizio holds Italian citizenship. When Fabrizio was three years old, he moved with his family to New York.
Fabrizio’s maternal grandfather was Dorival Zebende Frotte (the son of Alcelino Frotte and Darcilia Zebendo). Dorival was born in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro. Alcelino was born in São José do Ribeirão, Bom Jardim, Rio, the son of Eugênio Francisco Frotté, whose paternal grandparents were from Bern, and Courtemaîche, Jura, respectively, both in Switzerland, and whose mother had Portuguese ancestry; and of Anna Luiza Thurler, whose grandparents were all Swiss, from Jaun, Gruyère, and La Tour-de-Trême, Fribourg, respectively, on her father’s side, and from Büren, Solothurn on her mother’s. Fabrizio’s great-grandmother Darcilia was born in São José do Ribeirao, Bom Jardim. Her father, Henrique Luiz Zebendo, had paternal grandparents from Fribourg, and maternal grandparents from Neuchatel, Bern, and Eichelsdorf, Nidda, Hessen, Germany, respectively. Darcilia’s mother, Adelaide Magdalena Thurler, had grandparents who were all from Freiburg. Alcelino and Darcilia were second cousins, once removed.
Fabrizio’s maternal grandmother was Maria Angela Dos Santo (the daughter of Lourival Francisco dos Santos and Guiomar Lopes). Lourival was born in Rio de Janeiro, the son of João Francisco dos Santos, who was Portuguese; and of Maria Cardoso Vianna, whose father was from Viana do Castelo, Portugal. Fabrizio’s great-grandmother Guiomar was born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, the daughter of Zozimo Anastácio Lopes and Maria Paula de Almeida Lopes.
