Federico García Lorca was a Spanish poet, playwright, and theatre director. He achieved international recognition as an emblematic member of the Generation of ’27, a group consisting mostly of poets, who introduced the tenets of European movements into Spanish literature. He was executed by Nacionalist forces at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. His body has never been found.

Federico was born in Fuente Vaqueros, Granada, the son of Federico García Rodríguez, a prosperous landowner, and Vicenta Lorca Romero, a teacher.

Federico’s maternal grandfather was Vicente Lorca González (the son of Bernardo Lorca y Alcón and Antonia González Martín). Bernardo was born Totana, Murcia, and was the son of Pedro de Lorca y Madrid and Isabel Alcón de Cánovas. He was of possibly Moorish ancestry from Valle de Ricote, Murcia.

Federico’s maternal grandmother was named Concepción Romero Lucena. She was from Santa Fé, Granada.
