Felipe González is a Spanish lawyer, professor, and politician. He served as Prime Minister of Spain , from 2 December, 1982 to 5 May, 1996. He was also Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), from 13 October, 1974 to 20 May, 1979, and again, from 28 September, 1979 to 21 June, 1997; and Leader of the Opposition, from 5 May, 1996 to 21 June, 1997; as well as, a Member of the Congress of Deputies for Madrid, from 2 July, 1977 to 5 April, 2000, and for Seville, from 29 March, 2000 to 2 April, 2004.

Prime Minister González is the son of Juana Márquez Domínguez and Felipe González Helguera. Her father was a livestock entrepreneur from Rasines, Cantabria. Juana was from Villarrasa, Huelva. He is married to Mar García Vaquero. He has three children with his former wife, politician María del Carmen Romero.
