Fran Drescher is an American actress, comedian, writer, model, producer, and activist. She starred in the television show The Nanny . She has been National President of SAG–AFTRA, from October 15, 2021 to September 12, 2025.
She is the daughter of Sylvia and Morton “Morty” Drescher. Her parents were of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, from families from Russia, Romania, and Ukraine. Her cousin, Reid Drescher, is married to reality television personality Aviva Drescher .
Fran’s paternal grandfather was Israel Meier Drescher (the son of Jacob Moses Drescher and Littel Sternberp). Israel was born in Zalishchyky, Ukraine.
Fran’s paternal grandmother was Nettie/Henrietta Cooper (the daughter of Benjamin Cooper and Rose Posner). Nettie was born in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. Benjamin was the son of Louis Cooper and Rebecca Weiss.
