Frank Calder was a British-Canadian ice hockey executive, journalist, and athlete. He was the first President of the National Hockey League (NHL), from 1917 to 1943, his death.
Frank was the son of Elizabeth Jane and Frank Calder. He immigrated to Canada as a young man, becoming a private school teacher. He was married to teacher Amelia, with whom he had four children.
Frank’s paternal grandfather was Francis Robert Calder (the son of William Calder and Elizabeth Tarr Lockyer).
Frank’s paternal grandmother was Jane Wheeler (the daughter of William Wheeler and Jemima Hancock).
