Norman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Henry was the son of German parents, Heinrich Wilhelm Gerdelmann and Eleonore Dorothee Adelheid Campe, who was from Bremen. Mary was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Hermann Flender/Flenders, who was a German emigrant, Driesbach, and of Anna Mary Magdelin/Magdalena Galich/Gallich, who was also of German descent.
