Fred McGriff is an American professional baseball player. A first baseman, he played for the Toronto Blue Jays, the San Diego Padres, the Atlanta Braves, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, the Chicago Cubs, and the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a player in 2023. He is nicknamed “Crime Dog.”
Fred is the son of Elizabeth Delores and Early D. McGriff. He is married to Veronica, with whom he has two children.
Fred’s paternal grandfather was James McGriff (the son of Dennis McGriff and Louise Fryer). Dennis was born in Georgia, the son of Hampton Handy McGriff and Charolette Jones. Louise was born in Florida, the daughter of Lucretia and Green Fryer.
