Freddie Highmore is an English actor, and voice actor. His starred as Norman Bates on Bates Motel and as Shaun Murphy on The Good Doctor ; he also wrote and directed episodes of both shows. His roles also include the films Women Talking Dirty , Two Brothers , Finding Neverland , Five Children and It , Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , A Good Year , Arthur and the Invisibles , and its sequels, Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard and Arthur 3: The War of the Two Worlds ; August Rush , The Golden Compass , The Spiderwick Chronicles , A Fox’s Tale , Astro Boy (2009), Master Harold…and the Boys ; The Art of Getting By , Justin and the Knights of Valour , The Journey , Almost Friends (2016), Dragon Rider , The Vault (2021), and The Canterville Ghost (2023); the series Leonardo and The Assassin ; the mini-series The Mists of Avalon , Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story , and Close to the Enemy ; the made-for-tv movies Toast (2010) and Tour de Pharmacy ; and the music video for “Girls.”
Freddie is the son of actor Edward Highmore and talent agent Sue Latimer (née Jeffery). He is married to web designer Klarissa Munz, with whom he has a son. He is fluent in French and Spanish, and also speaks Arabic.
Freddie’s patrilineal line can be traced to his great-great-great-grandfather, James Highmoore, who was born, c. 1832, in Annan, Scotland. James married Freddie’s great-great-great-grandmother, Jane Forster, who was born, c. 1832, in Arthuret Longtown, Cumberland, England.
Freddie’s paternal grandfather was David Albert Highmore (the son of Albert Highmore and Alice Emily Field). David was born in Newton Abbot, Devon, England. Freddie’s great-grandfather Albert was born in Marldon, Devon, the son of James Highmoore and Mary Jane Osborne. Freddie’s great-grandmother Alice was born in Newton Abbot, the daughter of Henry Buckingham Field and Alice Emily Youlton.
Freddie’s paternal grandmother was Josephine M. Heath (the daughter of Roland Claude Heath and Winifred Ivy Fowler). Josephine was born in Romford, Essex, England. Roland was born in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, the son of Joseph Templeton Heath and Edith Evelyn Cottee. Freddie’s great-grandmother Winifred was born in Romford, the daughter of Thomas Joseph Fowler and Edith Maud Gardner.
