Freema Agyeman is a British actress. She is known for her roles on the series Doctor Who and Torchwood , as the doctor’s companion Martha Jones, as well as Mile High , Little Dorrit , Bizarre ER , Law & Order: UK , The Carrie Diaries , Sense8 , New Amsterdam , and Dreamland , and in the films North v South , Eat Locals , and The Matrix Resurrections .
She is the daughter of Azar (Azizian-Kohan) and Osei Agyeman. Her father is from Ghana, in Africa, and was raised Methodist. Her mother is Iranian, and was raised Muslim. A picture of Freema with her mother can be seen here .
Freema’s mother is sometimes said to be of Kurdish background. It is not clear if this is accurate.
