George Harrison was an English musician, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer. He was a member of rock band The Beatles, along with John Lennon , Paul McCartney , and Ringo Starr . He was the lead guitarist for the band, and composed a number of their songs. He was also a member of skiffle and rock and roll group The Quarrymen, with Lennon and McCartney; rock band Delaney & Bonnie, along with Bonnie and Delaney Bramlett, as well as Gregg Allman , Eric Clapton , and Rita Coolidge ; rock band Plastic Ono Band, with Clapton, Lennon, Keith Moon , Starr, and Yoko Ono ; and supergroup Traveling Wilburys, with Bob Dylan , Jeff Lynne , Roy Orbison , and Tom Petty .
George was the son of Louise Anne, a shop assistant, and Harold Hargreaves/Hargrove Harrison, a bus conductor and ship’s steward. George was married to author and film producer Olivia Harrison , until his death. The couple have a son, musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and composer Dhani Harrison.
George’s paternal grandfather was Henry Harrison (the son of Edward Harrison and Elizabeth Hargreaves). Henry was born in West Derby, Lancashire, England. Edward was the son of Robert Pettit Harrison and Jane Shepherd or Moat. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Hargreaves and Ann Holmes.
George’s paternal grandmother was Jane Thompson (the daughter of James Davidson Thompson and Annie Caley). Jane was born in Wavertree, Lancashire, England. James was born in Wigtown, Scotland, the son of Archibald Thompson, who had Scottish ancestry, and Jane Duff, who was born in Wigtonshire, Scotland, to Irish parents.
