Gordon MacRae was an American actor, singer, and radio and television host. He starerd in the films The Big Punch , Look for the Silver Lining , Backfire , The Daughter of Rosie O’Grady , Return of the Frontiersman , Tea for Two , The West Point Story , On Moonlight Bay , and its sequel By The Light of the Silvery Moon ; Starlift (1951), About Face , The Desert Song , Three Sailors and a Girl , Oklahoma! , Carousel , The Best Things in Life Are Free , Zero to Sixty , and The Pilot (1980).
Gordon was the son of Helen, a concert pianist, and William MacRae, a toolmaker and radio singer. He was married to Elizabeth Lambert Schrafft, until his death; He had four children with his former wife, English-American actress, singer, and dancer Sheila MacRae; and a daughter with Elizabeth.
Gordon’s paternal grandfather was Mungo Lamont MacRae (the son of William MacRae and Mary Ann McGavin). Mungo was an Scottish emigrant, from Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. William was born in Array, Ross-shire, the son of Alexander McRae and Christina McKay. Mary Ann was born in Mauchline, Ayrshire, the daughter of Hugh McGavin and Margaret Lamont.
Gordon’s paternal grandmother was Janette Hunter Semple (the daughter of William Semple and Janet Mcconnechy). Gordon’s grandmother Janette was a Scottish immigrant. William was born in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. Gordon’s great-grandmother Janet was the daughter of Elisabeth MacFarlane.
Gordon’s maternal grandfather was Albert Hermann Sonn (the son of John Christopher Sonn and Ernestine Müller). Albert was born in Newark, New Jersey, to German parents. John was born in Köngen, Württemberg, the son of Johann Christoph Sonn and Sabina Catharina Fuß. Ernestine was the daughter of Johann Georg Müller and Margaretha Justina Benkert.
Gordon’s maternal grandmother was Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ahbe (the daughter of Johann Christian Ahbe III and Christina Wolfgram). Elizabeth was born in Newark, New Jersey, to German parents. Johann was born in Marksuhl, Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Thüringen, the son of Johann Heinrich Ahbe and Margaretha Elisabeth Deussing.
