Graham Chapman was an English comedian, writer, actor, and author. He was a member of comedy troupe Monty Python. He starred in and co-wrote their films And Now for Something Completely Different , Monty Python and the Holy Grail , Monty Python’s Life of Brian , Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl , and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life . He co-created the shows At Last the 1948 Show , No – That’s Me Over Here! , and Monty Python’s Flying Circus , all of which he also starred on and wrote for; as he did for How to Irritate People . His roles also included the films Doctor in Trouble , The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer , The Odd Job , and Yellowbeard , the last two of which he also co-wrote; the made-for-tv movie Still Crazy Like a Fox ; and the music video for “Can I Play with Madness.” Other members of Monty Python were John Cleese , Terry Gilliam , Eric Idle , Terry Jones , and Michael Palin . He was also known as Gray Chapman.
He was the son of Edith (Towers) and Walter Chapman, who was a police constable and later chief inspector. He had a son, who was adopted, with his partner David Sherlock.
Graham’s maternal grandfather was named Harry/Henry Towers. Harry was born in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
Graham’s maternal grandmother was Emily Brightmore (the daughter of William Brightmore and Ann Garner). Emily was born in Leicester, Leicestershire. William was the son of John Brightmore and Ann Neal. Graham’s great-grandmother Ann was the daughter of John Garner and Hannah Weldon.
