He is the son of Marlene Marian and Maurice Albert Berger. His mother re-married to Edward Germann, and he took on his surname. The name Germann originates in Switzerland. He has a son, actor Asa Germann , with his former wife, actress Christine Mourad.
Greg’s paternal grandfather was Alex Berger (the son of Kalman Berger and Helen Abrahamovics). Alex was a Jewish emigrant, who was born in Ptrukša, Michalovce, Košice, Slovakia. His parents Kalman and Helen were killed in the Holocaust, in Auschwitz, in 1944. Kalman was born in Ptrukša, the son of Samuel Berger and Amalia Guttman. Helen was born in Nagykapos, Zakarpats’ka, Ukraine, the daughter of Herman Abrahamovics and Czili Guttman.
Greg’s paternal grandmother was Opal Rose (the daughter of James Lincoln Rose and Letha Ann Amanda). Opal was born in Stigler, Haskell, Oklahoma.
