Halimah Yacob is a Singaporean politician. She has served as President of Singapore , from 14 September, 2017 to 14 September, 2023, and Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, from 14 January, 2013 to 7 August, 2017; as well as, a Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC, from 3 November 2001 to 24 August, 2015, and for Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC, from 11 September, 2015 to 7 August, 2017.
President Halimah’s father was an Indian-born government watchman, who died when she was eight years old. President Halimah’s mother, Maimun Abdullah, was Malay. President Halimah is married to Mohammed Abdullah Alhabshee, who is of Malay Arab descent, and with whom she has five children. President Halimah is a Muslim.
