Hans Zimmer is a German film score composer and record producer. He has twice won the Academy Award for Best Original Score, for The Lion King (1994) and Dune (2021). He has also scored the films Rain Man , Thelma & Louise , The Preacher’s Wife , As Good as It Gets , The Prince of Egypt , The Thin Red Line , Gladiator (2000), Pearl Harbor (2001), Black Hawk Down , Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl , The Last Samurai , Spanglish , Batman Begins , The Da Vinci Code , The Dark Knight , Frost/Nixon , Sherlock Holmes (2009), Inception , The Dark Knight Rises , Man of Steel , 12 Years a Slave , Interstellar , Hidden Figures , Dunkirk (2017), Blade Runner 2049 , No Time to Die , Dune: Part Two , and F1 ; as well as the series The Pacific , Genius: Einstein , and The Tattooist of Auschwitz .

He was born in Frankfurt am Main and was raised in Königstein-Falkenstein in Frankfurt. He is the son of Brigitte (Weil) and Hans Joachim Zimmer. His father was an engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur. He founded Zimmer AG Frankfurt am Main, a textiles company.

Hans has described himself as Jewish. His mother was Jewish and left Germany in 1939 for England, to escape the Nazi Regime.

It is not publicly known if his father was also Jewish, but it is possible.

He has a daughter with his former wife, model Vicki Carolin; and three children with his former wife Suzanne.

Hans’ maternal grandfather was named Maximilian Weil. Maximilian was said to have been born in Warsaw, Poland.
