Henry Brandon was a German-born American film and stage actor, with a career spanning almost 60 years. Although he was of German descent, he specialized in playing a wide variety of ethnic roles. His films included Babes in Toyland (1934), The Garden of Allah , the serial Jungle Jim , Black Legion (1937), The Marshal of Mesa City , Drums of Fu Manchu , as the title character; Joan of Arc (1948), Tarzan’s Magic Fountain , The Fighting O’Flynn , Cattle Drive , Wagons West (1952), Scared Stiff , Pony Express , The Caddy , War Arrow (1953), Vera Cruz , Silent Fear , Comanche , The Searchers , Bandido , The Ten Commandments (1956), Hell’s Crossroads , Omar Khayyam (1957), The Buccaneer , Captain Sindbad , Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), Hollywood Knight , and Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II . He was also credited as Harry Brandon, Harry Kleinbach, and Henry Kleinbach.
He was the son of German parents, Hildegard Martha Agnes (Brandenberg/Brandenburg), from Bromberg, Posen, and Hugo Richard von Kleinbach, a merchant, from Fohenloherhof. His family moved to the U.S. when Henry was a small child. He had a son from a previous marriage.
Henry’s paternal grandfather was named Hugo Carl Heinrich von Kleinbach.
Henry’s paternal grandmother was Ottilie/Okein Lisette Mathilde Walz (the daughter of Johann Jakob Walz and Christine Gottliebin Warttmann).
