Herbert Lom was a Czech-British actor. He was the son of Olga (Gottlieb) and Karl Kuchačevič ze Schluderpacheru, who ran a printing business and a car repair shop. His father was of Czech ancestry, with noble roots. Herbert’s ancestor, Christian Schluderpacher, a burgher of Bozen, was ennobled in 1601. Herbert’s mother was Ashkenazi Jewish. His family lived in Žižkov, Vysočany, Vinohrady, and New Town, all in Prague. Herbert began acting in Czech cinema in the 1930s. After the Nazis occupied Czechoslovakia beginning in 1938, Herbert moved to England in 1939, and his parents later joined him there.
Herbert had two children with his former wife Diana Schea; and one child with his former partner Brigitta Appleby.
Herbert’s paternal grandfather was named Karl Kuchacevič ze Schluderpacheru (the son of Wilhelm Kuchacevič ze Schluderpacheru).
Herbert’s paternal grandmother was named Jana Kučera.
Herbert’s maternal grandfather was named Simon Gottlieb (the son of Filip Gottlieb). Simon was born in Kasejovice, Kasejovice, Plzeň Region, Czechia. Filip was the son of Jakub Gottlieb.
