Hiroyuki Sanada (真田) is a Japanese actor and martial artist. Beginning as a child actor in the 1960s, his roles include the films Ninja in the Dragon’s Den , Kabamaru the Ninja , Ring (1998), and its sequel; The Twilight Samurai , The Last Samurai , Sunshine (2007), Rush Hour 3 , Speed Racer , The City of Your Final Destination , The Wolverine (2013), The Railway Man , 47 Ronin , Mr. Holmes , The Catcher Was a Spy , Minamata , Mortal Kombat (2021), Army of the Dead , Bullet Train , and John Wick: Chapter 4 , and the shows Message from Space: Galactic Wars , Taiheiki , Shin Hanshichi Torimonocho , Westworld , and Shōgun . He has worked in both Japan and the U.S. He has also been credited as Henry Sanada, Harry Sanada, and Duke Sanad.
He trained with Sonny Chiba’s Japan Action Club. He has two children, including actor Nichinan Tezuka, with his former wife, actress Satomi Tezuka.
