Howie Morenz was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A centre, he played for the Montreal Canadiens, the Chicago Black Hawks, and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was nicknamed “Stratford Flash” and “Mitchell Meteor.”
Howie was the son of Rosena/Rosina/Rose and William Frederick Morenz. He was partly raised in Stratford, Ontario. He was married to Mary McKay, with whom he had three children. His daughter Marlene was married to professional ice hockey player Bernie Geoffrion. His grandson, Dan Geoffrion, and great-grandson, Blake Geoffrion, are also professional ice hockey player.
Howie’s paternal grandfather was Johann/John Traugott Morenz (the son of Johann Adolph Morenz and Johanne Anna/Ann Christine/Christiana Sebastian). Johann was born in Weissenfels/Weißenfels, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
Howie’s paternal grandmother was named Anna Dorothea Pamberine/Pamperen Gethke (the daughter of Frederika Ferg).
Howie’s maternal grandfather was Michael Pauli (the son of Johann Georg/George Pauli and Rosina Andres). Johann was born in Dittweiller, Alsace, Germany, the son of Georg Pauli. Rosina was the daughter of Michael Andres and Catherine Michaelin.
