Inga Swenson was an American actress and singer. Her roles include the films Advise & Consent , The Miracle Worker , Lipstick (1976), The Betsy , and The Mountain Men ; the shows Playhouse 90 , The Defenders , and Benson , the mini-series North and South , and its sequel; the made-for-tv movie Earth II , and many performances on stage.

She was the daughter of Geneva Pauline and Axel Carl Richard “A.C.R.” Swenson. Her father was a Swedish emigrant, from Ramkvilla. Her mother was of half German and half English descent. She was married to actor and singer Lowell Harris, until her death, with whom she had two children, including film and television editor Mark Harris.

Inga’s paternal grandfather was named Carl Johan Svensson/Swenson. Carl was born in Sandsberg under Stora Sandebo, Bäckaby, Jönköping, Sweden.

Inga’s paternal grandmother was Inga Sofia Petersdotter/Peterson (the daughter of Johannes Carlsson and Eva Lisa Samuelsdotter). Inga was born in Tröskillatorp, Ramkvilla, Jönköping, Sweden. Johannes was born in Åskog, Bäckaby, Jönköping, the son of Carl Persson and Christina Persdotter. Eva was born in Bäckaby Storegård, Bäckaby, the daughter of Samuel Persson Frid and Cathrina Jonasdotter.

Inga’s maternal grandfather was Hugo William Seeger (the son of Gustave G. Seeger and Elizabeth Jeannette Friederike Normann). Hugo was born in Iowa, to German parents. Elizabeth was born in Lübeck, the daughter of Peter Heinrich Normann and Dorothea Johanna Lesznau.

Inga’s maternal grandmother was Ann Elizabeth Estes (the daughter of Richard Coleman Estes and Elizabeth “Martha” Harrison). Ann was born in Mills, Iowa, and had some deep lines in the U.S. Richard was born in Cross Plains, Kentucky, the son of Littleton Fenimore Estes and Ann Nancy Fortson, who were from Virginia. Inga’s great-grandmother Elizabeth was born in Spencer, Indiana, the daughter of John William Henry Harrison, an English emigrant, from Cheshire, and of Martha Nix, who was from North Carolina.
