J. C. Chandor is an American filmmaker, writer, and director. He has directed the films Margin Call , All Is Lost , A Most Violent Year , Triple Frontier , and Kraven the Hunter (2024). He wrote his first three films, and co-wrote his fourth. He co-runs production company CounterNarrative Films.

His father is an investment banker. He was raised in Basking Ridge, Bernards Township, New Jersey. J. C. is married to Mary Cameron Goodyear.

J. C.’s paternal grandfather was Keith Feucheres Chandor (the son of Jack Arthur Feucheres Chandor and Mabel Wallington). Keith was born in London, England. Jack was born in New York City, New York, the son of John Arthur Chandor/Sandor, whose parents were from the Austria-Hungarian Empire, with his father having succeeded in business; and of Adeline Augusta Dickinson, whose parents were born in England. J. C.’s great-grandmother Mabel was also born in England.

J. C.’s paternal grandmother was Jean Troxell (the daughter of Edgar Marcellus Troxell and Edith F. Frazer). Jean was born in Drexel Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Edgar was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Samuel Myers Troxell and Ann Elizabeth Bratton. Edith was born in Pennsylvania.

J. C.’s maternal grandfather was named David S. D. McDonald.

J. C.’s maternal grandmother was Beatrice Virginia Francis Pelletier (the daughter of Harry Pelletier and Mary Beatrice Muirhead). Virginia was born in Ontario, Canada. Harry was born in Ontario, the son of Wilfred Pelletier and Mary L’Heureux, who were from Québec. Mary was born in Scotland, the daughter of Samuel Muirhead and Rachel Craig.
