Jawed Karim is a German-American software engineer and Internet entrepreneur. He co-founded online video sharing platform YouTube, with Steve Chen and Chad Hurley . He is the first person to upload a video on it, “Me at the zoo,” on April 23, 2005. He also designed many core components of multinational financial technology company PayPal.
His father, Naimul Karim, is a Bangladeshi researcher. His mother, Christine, is German, and is a biochemistry scientist. He was raised in Neuss, West Germany, and then moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota, U.S., in 1992, with his family.
