Jay Bruce is an American professional baseball player. A right fielder, he played for the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Mets, the Cleveland Indians, the Seattle Mariners, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Jay is the son of Martha and Joseph Bruce, Jr. He is married to Hannah Eastham, with whom he has two children.
Jay’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Allen Bruce, Sr. (the son of Gabriel Bruce and Marie Louisiana Higginbotham). Joseph was of mostly Cajun/French, with some English and German, ancestry. Gabriel was the son of Joseph Adam Bruce and Felicia Jeannis/Jany. Marie was the daughter of Joseph Stafford Higginbotham and Marie Onezida LeDoux.
Jay’s paternal grandmother was Janice Denby (the daughter of Archibald James Denby and Mary Belle Burnett). Archibald was the son of James Rufus Denby and Alice Eudora Stone. Mary Belle was the daughter of Fletcher Belle Burnett and Sarah Elisabeth Donathan.
Jay’s maternal grandfather was DeWitt Carter Stanford (the son of Otis Dewitt Stanford and Johnnie Carter). Otis was the son of Robert Lee Stanford and Melissa Ann Walker. Johnnie was the daughter of William David Carter and Early Anderson Bates.
Jay’s maternal grandmother was Reba Mildred Burnett (the daughter of Theodore Fisher Burnett and Drucilla K. Griffin). Theodore was the son of Isaac Nuel Burnett and Mary Elizabeth Bickett. Drucilla was the daughter of Albert F. Griffin and Emily Jacquelene Cox.
