Jaz Coleman is a British musician, composer, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is the lead singer and keyboardist of rock band Killing Joke.
Jaz is the son of Gloria and Ronald Coleman, who were school teachers. His father had English ancestry, and his mother was of half Indian and half English descent. Jaz has three children.
Jaz’s maternal grandfather was named John C. Pandy (the son of Mangal Pandey). Mangal was a soldier who led an insurrection against the British in 1857. Jaz has also said that his grandfather John was the first prime minister of India’s brother, making Jaz himself the great-nephew of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Jaz is often described as having a half Bengali Indian mother. Given that Jawaharlal Nehru had Kashmiri Indian ancestry, this is probably not the case.
Jaz’s maternal grandmother was named Bertha A. Stevens.
