Jean Stapleton was an American actress.
She was the daughter of Marie A. (Stapleton), an opera singer, and Joseph Edward Murray, a billboard advertising salesman. Her brother was stage actor Jack Stapleton. Her cousin was actress Betty Jane Watson. Jean was married to theatre director William Putch, until his death, with whom she had two children, actor, writer, and director John Putch and television producer Pamela Putch.
