Jeff Perry is an American actor, in stage, film, and television productions. He co-founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago, Illinois. His roles include the shows thirtysomething , Brooklyn Bridge , L.A. Law , My So-Called Life , Chicago Hope , Nash Bridges , Prison Break , CSI: Crime Scene Investigation , Grey’s Anatomy , Scandal , Dirty John , and Alaska Daily ; the films Remember My Name , A Wedding (1978), Hard Promises , Storyville , Body of Evidence , Playmaker (1994), Wild Things , Diminished Capacity , Lizzie , Trial by Fire (2018), and Chasing Summer ; the mini-series Murder in the Heartland , Inventing Anna , and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story ; and the made-for-tv movies Columbo: Murder, Smoke, and Shadows ; The Final Days (1989), A Private Matter , and Into Thin Air: Death on Everest ; as well as many works on stage.
His father was a high school teacher. Jeff is married to Linda Lowy, the casting director for Grey’s Anatomy . He has a daughter, actress Zoe Perry , with his former wife, actress Laurie Metcalf ; and a daughter with Linda.
Jeff’s paternal grandfather was named George Perry. George was born in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio. He was adopted by Edward Hanrahan and Minnie Miller.
Jeff’s paternal grandmother was Florence May Gott (the daughter of William Thomas Gott and Mary Rebecca Smith). Florence was born in Central City, Marion, Illinois. William was born in Milltown, Indiana, the son of John Gott, whose father was adopted; and of Margaret Whitehead, who was of German descent. Jeff’s great-grandmother Mary was born in Marion, and had heavily Colonial American roots, including in Massachusetts and Maine. She was the daughter of Valentine Jordan Smith and Ellen Maria Smith, who was from Bennington, Vermont.
Jeff’s maternal grandfather was Richard Henry Irving (the son of John W. Irving and Sarah S. Leach/Leech). He was born in Newburgh, Orange, New York, to parents who were also born in the state.
Jeff’s maternal grandmother was Jessie Mary Roberts (the daughter of Francis M. Roberts and Julia Etta McCracken). She was born in Clinton, Missouri. Francis was born in Iowa, the son of Ezariah Uriah Roberts and Mary Elizabeth Christy. Jeff’s great-grandmother Julia was born in Trenton, Grundy, Missouri, the daughter of Matthew W. McCracken, whose parents were from Ireland; and of Julia Ann Stone.
