Jenny Shipley is a New Zealand politician. She served as Prime Minister of New Zealand , from 8 December, 1997 to 10 December, 1999. She was also Minister for Social Welfare, from 2 November, 1990 to 29 November, 1993, Minister of Health, from 29 November, 1993 to 16 December, 1996, Minister for State Owned Enterprises, from 16 December, 1996 to 8 December, 1997, and Leader of the Opposition, from 10 December, 1999 to 8 October, 2001; as well as, a Member of the New Zealand Parliament for Ashburton/Rakaia, from 15 August, 1987 to 27 July, 2002.
She is married to Burton Shipley, with whom she has two children.
Jenny’s paternal grandfather was William John Frederick Robson (the son of William Robson and Margaret Cameron). Jenny’s grandfather William was born in Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand. Margaret was Scottish.
Jenny’s paternal grandmother was Isabell Margaret Chisholm Beaton (the daughter of Alexander Beaton and Ellen Jane Dowling). Isabell was born in Tapanui, Otago, New Zealand.
Jenny’s maternal grandfather was named William Henry Goodall. William’s paternal grandparents were William Goodall and Sophia Stillwell, whose own father was American and whose mother was English. Jenny’s grandfather William’s maternal grandparents were Henry York, who was English, and Dinah.
