Jessie Buckley is an Irish actress and singer. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Hamnet (2025). Her roles also include the films Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart , Beast (2017), Wild Rose , Judy (2019), Dolittle , The Courier , Misbehaviour , I’m Thinking of Ending Things , The Lost Daughter , Men (2022), Women Talking , Scrooge: A Christmas Carol , Fingernails , Wicked Little Letters , and The Bride! (2026); the series Shades of Love , War & Peace , Taboo , The Last Post , The Woman in White , Chernobyl , and Fargo ; the video game The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me ; and works on stage. She has collaborated on music with Bernard Butler.
Jessie is the daughter of Marina Cassidy and Tim Buckley. Her first cousin, once removed, is author and historian Dr Tim Horgan. She was raised attending a girls convent school. Jessie is married to mental health worker Freddie Sorensen, with whom she has a daughter.

Jessie’s paternal grandmother was Dr. Noreen/Norrie Buckley (born Norrie Comer, the daughter of John Joseph “Jack” Comer and Margaret Mary Clifford). John was from Williamstown, County Galway, and was a doctor. Jessie’s great-grandmother Madge Clifford was from Tralee, County Kerry. She was an Irish republican and officer in Cumann na mBan; she became quartermass quartermaster in Cumann na mBan’s Dublin central branch. Madge was the daughter of Jeremiah Clifford and Mary Brosnahan.
