Jo Cox was a British politician. She was a Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, from 7 May, 2015 to 16 June, 2016, her assassination. She was a member of the Labour Party.

Jo was the daughter of Jean (Smith), a school secretary, and Gordon Leadbeater, a factory worker. She was raised in Heckmondwike. Jo was married to international development advisor Brendan Cox, until her death, with whom she had two children. Her sister, Kim Leadbeater, was later elected to fill her seat, assuming office on 1 July, 2021.

Jo’s paternal grandfather was Arthur Leadbeater (the son of Charles Leadbeater and Annie Smith). Arthur was born in Batley, West Yorkshire. Charles was the son of Tom Leadbeater and Mary Parker. Annie was the daughter of John Smith and Alice Walker.

Jo’s paternal grandmother was named Jessie Andrews.
