Jo Koy is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and voice actor. Jo was born in Misawa Air Base, Misawa, Japan. His father, John Herbert, was American, and was stationed with the U.S. Air Force when he met his mother, Josie, who was from Quezon City, Philippines. He was raised in Spanaway and Tacoma, Washington, and then moved to Las Vegas. His stage name comes from a childhood nickname.
He has a son with his former wife, Filipino-American singer Angie King.
Jo’s paternal grandfather was Joseph John Herbert (the son of Edward George Herbert and Bridget Alice Hanley). Joseph was born in New York. Edward was born in New York, to German parents, John Herbert and Marianna Kessler. Bridget was born in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Timothy Hanley, whose parents were Irish; and of Ann Hagan, whose parents were also Irish.
Jo’s paternal grandmother was Mary Ann Hibbard/Hibberd (the daughter of Andrew Edgar Hibbard/Hibberd and Daisy Bulpin). Mary Ann was born in Ohio. Andrew was born in England, the son of Andrew Cornelius Hibberd, who was English, and of Mary Ann Harris, who was Welsh. Daisy was also born in England.
Jo’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Magluyan. Magluyan is a Hiligaynon name.
