Joe DiMaggio was an American professional baseball player. A center fielder, he played for thirteen years for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He coached the Oakland Athletics. He was nicknamed “Joltin’ Joe,” “the Yankee Clipper,” and “Joe D.”

He was the son of Rosalia/Rosalie (Mercurio) and Giuseppe/Giuseppi “Joseph” DiMaggio. His parents were from Isola delle Femmine, Città Metropolitana di Palermo, Sicily, Italy. He had a son with his former wife, actress Dorothy Arnold.

Joe’s paternal grandfather was Gaetano Di Maggio/DiMaggio (the son of Vincenzo Stefano Giuseppe Di Maggio/DiMaggio and Rosaria Lucido). Gaetano was born on Isola delle Femmine, Palermo, Sicily. Vincenzo was born in Capaci, Palermo, the son of Gaetano Di Maggio/DiMaggio and Giuseppa Providenzia Maria Lucido. Rosaria was born in Palermo, the daughter of Antonino Lucido and Speranza Puccio.
