Joe Hawley is an American singer and songwriter, based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was the lead vocalist for indie rock band Tally Hall. He has released multiple other albums and singles, most notably albums Hawaii: Part II , with some songs gathering over 100 million streams; and Joe Hawley Joe Hawley . Tally Hall also included Rob Cantor .
Joe has said that he has some degree of Native American ancestry. No Native American roots appear in publicly available genealogies of Joe Hawley.
Joe’s paternal grandfather was Richard Hawley (the son of Howard Nelson Hawley and Mary Ellen Gunsell). Richard was born in Lewiston, Michigan, and had partly deep Colonial American roots, that trace back to the Mayflower. Howard was born in Hillman, Michigan, the son of William Martin Hawley, whose mother was Irish; and of Florence Adell “Della” Layman. Joe’s great-grandmother Mary was born in Elkton, Michigan, the daughter of Charles Martin Gunsell, whose father was German; and of Annie Elizabeth Stoddard.

Joe’s maternal grandmother was Darline May Friday (the daughter of Ivor Murray Friday and Hazelle Elsie Darling). Darline was born in Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan.
