John Eales is an Australian rugby union player. A lock and number 8, he played for Queensland, Queensland Reds in super rugby, and the Australia national team. He is the most successful captain in the history of Australian rugby, and has given his name to the John Eales Medal , annually awarded to the best Australian rugby union player.
John is the son of Rose (Garrone) and John “Jack” Eales. His middle name is after Saint Anthony of Padua. He is 200 cm (6 ft 7 in). John is married to Lara, with whom he has four children.
John’s maternal grandparents were named Ernesto Garrone and Carolina Marcellina Imarisio. They were from Piedmont, in North-West Italy. Caroline was born in San Giorgio Monferrato, Alessandria, Piedmont.
