John’s paternal grandfather was Harry John Gourley, Jr. (the son of Harry John Gourley and Ethel Louise Perkins). John’s grandfather Harry was born in Utica, New York, and had partly deep roots in the U.S. John’s great-grandfather Harry was the son of Thomas Gourley, an emigrant from Ireland; and of Sarah Shattuck. Ethel was the daughter of Herbert C. Perkins and Flora A. Eaton.
John’s paternal grandmother was Arlene Jeanette Baldwin (the daughter of Charles Hilliard Baldwin and Susie Marleah Morrisey). Arlene was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and had partly deep American roots. Charles was the son of Charles Edwin Baldwin and Alice Eliza Hilliard. Susie was the daughter of Thomas Morrisey, who was born in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland, to Irish Protestant parents; and of Susan Elizabeth Mericle.
John’s maternal grandfather was John Visger “Jack” Van Ingen (the son of John Van Ingen and Hazel Fay Hickson). John’s grandfather Jack was born in Rochester, New York. John’s great-grandfather John was the son of James William Van Ingen and Anna Maria Clark, who herself was born in New York, to Irish parents. John’s great-grandmother Hazel was the daughter of Edwin Jesse Hickson and Sarah Elizabeth Kramer.
