John Hinckley, Jr. is an American man who attempted to assassinate U.S. President Ronald Reagan in Washington, D.C. on March 30, 1981, two months after Reagan’s inauguration. He wounded Reagan, police officer Thomas Delahanty, Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, and White House Press Secretary James Brady, the latter of whom became disabled, and died 33 years later from related injuries. He was released from incarceration in 2022, and pursued a music career.
He is the son of Jo Ann and John Warnock Hinckley, Sr., who founded, and was chairman, chief executive, and president of, the Vanderbilt Energy Corporation. John was raised in University Park, Texas.
John’s paternal grandfather was Percival Porter Hinckley (the son of Francis Edward Hinckley and Amelia/Emilea Smith). Pervical was born in Chicago, Illinois. Francis was born in Elmira, New York, the son of Alfred Hinckley and Eliza/Elizabeth Stanley, who was born in Cork, Ireland. Amelia was the daughter of John Wilson Smith and Amelia Shipley.
John’s paternal grandmother was Katherine Avilla Warnock (the daughter of William George Warnock and Avilla Minnie Tinker). Katherine was born in Meriden, Connecticut.
