John Krasinski is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. He is known for starring on the shows The Office and Jack Ryan . His roles also include the films Kinsey , Duane Hopwood , Jarhead , A New Wave , For Your Consideration , The Holiday , Dreamgirls (2006), Smiley Face (2007), Shrek the Third , License to Wed , Leatherheads , Brief Interviews with Hideous Men , which he directed and wrote; Monsters vs. Aliens , Away We Go , It’s Complicated , Something Borrowed , Nobody Walks , Big Miracle , Promised Land (2012), which he co-wrote; Monsters University , The Wind Rises , Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet (2014), Aloha (2015), 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi , The Hollars , which he directed; Born in China , Animal Crackers , Detroit (2017), A Quiet Place , which he directed and co-wrote; Next Gen , A Quiet Place Part II , which he directed and wrote; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , DC League of Super-Pets , IF (2024), which he also directed and wrote; and Fountain of Youth . He has also directed episodes of The Office , co-created competition show Lip Sync Battle , and created, wrote for, and hosted the show Some Good News . He co-founded film and television production company Sunday Night Productions.
His father, Ronald Krasinski, an internist, is of Polish descent, and originally from Natrona, Pennsylvania. His mother, Mary Clare (Doyle), a nurse, is of Irish ancestry, and originally from Providence, Rhode Island. He was raised in Newton, Massachusetts. John is married to English actress Emily Blunt , with whom he has two children.
John was selected People Magazine’s “ Sexiest Man Alive ” in 2024. He is the first man of significant Slavic heritage to have been given this title by the magazine.
John’s paternal grandfather was Leo/Leon Gerard Krasinski (the son of Wladislaw “Walter” Krasinski and Mary Tomajczyk/Tomyczyk). Leo was born in Pennsylvania. Wladislaw was born in Poland, the son of John Krasinski and Theophila Lyszkowska. Mary was born in New York, to Polish parents, Franciscus Tomajczyk and Valentina Gramińska.
John’s paternal grandmother was Regina Lucille Wajozynski/Wojszynski/Wojczynski/Wijszynski/Woiszynski (the daughter of Casimer/Casimir Yawerszyniec/Wawrzyniec Wojszynski/Wojczynski and Laura Filip/Philips/Michalowicz). Regina was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Casimer was born in Poland. Laura was born in Pennsylvania, to Polish parents, Jakub Jacob Phillips/Filip and Rozalia Banach, who was from Szubin, Kujawsko-Pomorskie.
John’s maternal grandfather was Edward Joseph Doyle, Jr. (the son of Edward Joseph Doyle and Bridget Aloysius Murphy). John’s grandfather Edward was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. John’s great-grandfather Edward was born in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, the son of Irish parents, Patrick Doyle and Catherine. Bridget was born in Rhode Island, also to Irish parents, Michael J. Murphy, who was from Cooil, Valentia, County Kerry; and Margaret M. McGuann, who was from Miltown, Malbay, County Clare.
John’s maternal grandmother was Eileen Goggin Burke (the daughter of Dennis/Denis Burke and Hannah Connors). Eileen was born in Massachusetts, to Irish parents. Dennis was the son of William Burke and Mary Anne/Ann Daly. Hannah was the daughter of Patrick Connors and Margaret Goggin/Goggan.
