John Podesta is an American political figure and columnist. A member of the Democratic Party, he was White House Staff Secretary, from January 20, 1993 to June 30, 1995, White House Chief of Staff, from October 20, 1998 to January 20, 2001, and Counselor to the President, from January 1, 2014 to February 13, 2015. He was the Chairman of the 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.
John is the son of Mary K. (Kokoris) and John David Podesta. His father is Italian. His mother is of Greek descent. His brother is lobbyist Tony Podesta. John is married to attorney Mary Podesta, with whom he has three children.
John’s paternal grandparents were Antonio/Anthony “Tony” Podestà and Civille/Civile/Cevile Gazzola. Antonio was born, c. 1871, in Chiesanuova di Ne, near Genoa, Liguria, Italy. Civille was also Italian, from Genoa.
John’s maternal grandparents were Louis Kokoris and May. They were both born in Greece.
