John Stockwell is an American actor, model, director, producer, and writer. He is known for his roles in the films So Fine , Losin’ It , Eddie and the Cruisers , Christine , Radioactive Dreams , My Science Project , City Limits , Dangerously Close , Top Gun , Born to Ride , Aurora: Operation Intercept , and Stag , and the mini-series North and South . He has directed the films Under Cover (1987), which he co-wrote; Crazy/Beautiful , Blue Crush , which he also co-wrote; Into the Blue , Turistas , Middle of Nowhere (2008), Cat Run , Dark Tide , Kid Cannabis , which he wrote; In the Blood (2014), Cat Run 2 , Countdown (2016), Kickboxer: Vengeance , and Armed Response (2017), the made-for-tv movie Cheaters (2000), which he wrote; and Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden , and episodes of the show The L Word . He also wrote the film Rock Star (2001).
John is the son of Ellen and John S. Samuels III, who was a lawyer and coal magnate. His sister is historian Evelyn Welch (born Samuels), who is married to immunologist and scientist Peter Openshaw. His niece, her daughter, is English singer, songwriter, and musician Florence Welch . His father bought the estate Salutation, on Glen Cove, Long Island, in 1974. John is married to chef and caterer Helene Henderson, with whom he has three children.
