Thurston is an Australian professional rugby league footballer. A halfback and five-eighth, he played for Canterbury Bulldogs and North Qld Cowboys, and for Queensland, the Australia national team, Prime Minister’s XIII, and Indigenous All Stars.
His father, Graham, from New Zealand, has English ancestry. His mother, Debbie, is of Gunggari Aboriginal descent. A few websites have stated that he is of Māori descent, though this does not appear to be accurate.
He has stated, “I’m just proud of my family and where I come from.”
Johnathan is married to Samantha Lynch, with whom he has four children. Johnathan is Catholic.
